1. Surface Preparation

New Wood: Ensure surface is sanded smooth (finish with 220 grit) and free of dust. Use Kenlac Sanding Sealer first to seal the pores for the best gloss.

Previously Varnished: Remove old loose varnish with sandpaper or paint stripper. Clean with White Spirit.
2. Application

Thinning: For the first coat, thin by 10% with Kenlac Standard Thinner (White Spirit) to aid penetration. Subsequent coats can be applied full strength or slightly thinned for flow.

Method: Apply with a high-quality varnish brush. Use long, smooth strokes in the direction of the wood grain.

Bubbles: Do not shake the can before use (this creates bubbles); stir gently instead.
3. Inter-coat Sanding

Allow the first coat to dry overnight (minimum 12 hours).

Lightly sand with fine sandpaper (320 or 400 grit) to remove dust nibs and create a “key” for the next coat. Wipe off dust with a tack cloth.
4. Finishing

Apply 2 to 3 coats for general furniture.

Apply 4+ coats for high-exposure areas like front doors or table tops.
