The Professional Thinner for Synthetic Enamels and Oil-Based Paints.

Kenlac Turpentine Substitute is a high-quality mineral solvent designed specifically for thinning alkyd-based decorative paints and varnishes. Unlike rapid-drying cellulose thinners, this formulation offers a controlled, slow evaporation rate that keeps oil-based paints “open” longer.

This extended working time is crucial for house painters and decorators, as it allows brush and roller marks to flow out evenly, resulting in a smooth, high-gloss finish without streaks. It is also a powerful cleaner for removing wet oil paint from brushes, rollers, and spills, ensuring your expensive decorating tools remain soft and usable.

Key Features:

  • Excellent Flow: Slow evaporation allows brush marks to level out perfectly.

  • Compatibility: Designed for all synthetic gloss enamels, oil varnishes, and primers.

  • Effective Cleaner: Quickly dissolves wet oil paint from brushes and rollers.

  • Low Odor: More refined than standard kerosene, making it better for indoor use.

1. Thinning Gloss Enamel Use when applying oil-based paints (Synthetic Enamel) by brush or roller.

  • Ratio: Add small amounts (approx. 5-10%) until the paint moves freely without “dragging.”

  • Benefit: Do not over-thin, as this reduces the paint’s hiding power. The slow drying time helps the paint settle into a glass-like finish.

2. Cleaning Brushes & Rollers Pour Kenlac Turpentine into a container. Work the brush bristles against the bottom to release the paint. Rinse and repeat until clear.

  • Tip: After cleaning, wash the brush with warm soapy water to remove the oily residue of the turpentine itself.

3. General Cleaning Excellent for removing tar, bitumen spots, and grease from metal surfaces.

4. Important Warning Do NOT use this product with Nitrocellulose (NC) paints, Sanding Sealers, or 2K Auto paints. It is not compatible and will cause the paint to curdle or separate. For those products, use Kenlac Standard Thinner.
