The Trusted General-Purpose Adhesive for Professional Joinery.
Tough Bond Standard is a premium-quality, polychloroprene-based contact adhesive designed for versatility and durability. Engineered for the East African climate, this formulation delivers a strong, flexible bond that withstands humidity and aging.
Ideally suited for the furniture and construction industries, Tough Bond Standard provides excellent adhesion to a wide range of porous and non-porous substrates. It is the professional’s choice for bonding decorative laminates (Formica), plywood, chipboard, blockboard, leather, rubber, and rigid PVC. Its balanced viscosity ensures easy spreadability by brush or scraper without dripping, ensuring a clean finish and maximum coverage.
Key Features:

-
Versatile Application: Compatible with wood, leather, rubber, and metal.
-
Climate Resilient: Formulated to resist moisture and typical tropical heat.
-
Cost-Effective: Excellent coverage rates for bulk industrial use.

1. Surface Preparation: Surfaces to be bonded must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, or loose paint.
-
For Wood/Laminates: Ensure the moisture content of wood is below 15%. Sand smooth surfaces slightly to improve mechanical keying.
-
For Metal: Degrease using KAPL Industrial Thinner and abrade with sandpaper.
2. Application: Stir the adhesive well before use. Using a serrated spreader or a stiff brush, apply a uniform coat of Tough Bond Standard to both surfaces. Ensure the edges are well coated as these are stress points.
-
Note: Very porous surfaces (like soft chipboard) may require a second coat after the first has dried.
3. Drying Time (Flash Off): Allow the solvent to evaporate until the adhesive film is “touch dry.” This typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.
-
The Test: Touch the glue with your knuckle. If it feels sticky but does not transfer to your skin, it is ready to bond. Do not bond while wet.
4. Assembly: Align the substrates carefully. Once contact is made, repositioning is impossible. Press the two surfaces together firmly.
5. Applying Pressure: Apply firm pressure across the entire surface area.
-
Manual: Use a hand roller or a wooden block and hammer, working from the center outwards to eliminate air bubbles.
-
Mechanical: For best results, use a pinch roller or cold press.
6. Curing: While initial handling strength is immediate, the bond reaches full strength after 24 hours.
